The Collegiate Licensed Properties Association (CLPA) is a non-profit organization made up of colleges and universities who manage their own licensing program or partner with the Licensing Resource Group for trademark management services. Together, these universities and LRG created the CLPA Authentication Program, which helps to protect university brands from the production and sale of counterfeit merchandise.
More than 175 colleges, universities, bowls and special properties are members of the CLPA Authentication Program and require the use of the CLP hangtag or label on their products. The Licensing Resource Group serves as the executive management company for this organization and handles the day-to-day operations of the Authentication Program.
The CLPA Authentication Program consists of three different products:
- Hangtag: Designed specifically for apparel.
- Standard Label: Should be used on all non-apparel products. This label may also be adhered to existing hangtags as well as apparel products and headwear.
- Small Label: May only be used on small gift and novelty items. Use of the small label requres special written permission from CLPA.
